"This collection of brass napkin rings tells a botanical story that is particularly dear to me and rooted in Montreal culture. All the pieces in this collection are inspired by the local flora of the banks of the St. Lawrence River, gathered during my walks throughout the year. I kept a journal of plant fragments during these walks, and this collection is the physical manifestation of that personal diary. Eleven different leaves make up this collection, each hand-wrapped around a brass ring."

My name is Sarah Kestenberg, and I'm a self-taught, multidisciplinary artisan from Montreal. I work with paper to create meticulously handcrafted, botanically inspired paper flowers and plants for the home. My earliest memories are of collecting and pressing plants, shells, lichens, and seaweed, and carefully preserving my precious collections.

Today, my process begins with the study of flowers and plants in nature. I responsibly collect specimens of living plants in the spring and summer and carefully document them by making plant prints and smears. Then, through multiple iterations, I create my paper sculptures. To remain true to nature, I intentionally fill my works with imperfections.

I hope that anyone who discovers my works will be drawn by curiosity and pleasantly surprised when they realize it's a paper plant."
