___

The Glenn is a traditional technical knife used by Breton sailors. Made from recycled fishing nets, it features an elongated handle for a comfortable grip and a 2.5 mm blade made of MA5 martensitic stainless steel. The safety catch has also been designed to ensure it can be used safely on a boat.
Each Glenn knife has an identification number on its blade. This number takes the form of a boat's registration number and indicates the origin of the port of the fishing nets used in its manufacture.
Additionally, scallops are incorporated into the handle during manufacturing to further increase strength. Therefore, no two Glenn knife handles are the same.
The blade thickness is 2.5 mm. They use high-performance MA5 steel, which they additionally cryogenically treat, making it much more resistant to corrosion in contact with seawater. To keep it impeccable for a lifetime, we recommend wiping the blade with a cloth after use and sharpening it with a stone at a 20° angle.

THE LEGEND

The Glenn was born in Porz Gwenn, in the commune of Plouescat, not far from Roscoff. Legend has it that this knife originated in a fishermen's café.
One stormy night, a fisherman was swept away by a breaking wave. Glenn is said to have jumped from the boat, cut the mesh of the fishing net in which his friend was caught, and managed to pull him back on board.

The only loss was Glenn's knife, which fell to the bottom of the ocean during the rescue. The survivor offered him his own, which had a distinctive shape: folded, it resembled a boat hull.

That same evening, at the fishermen's café, Glenn bought a round of drinks and made a toast, exclaiming: "May this knife bring us luck and may tomorrow's fishing be good for everyone!"
The next day, the catch was exceptional, and this miracle was attributed to Glenn and his new knife. Since that day, tradition has it that to seal a lasting friendship in Brittany, whoever receives a knife must offer a drink in exchange, to the health of the seafarers.
