Chanel is the self-taught embroiderer behind Filorama, specializing in the technique of
“Irish” machine embroidery. Her love for textiles dates back to childhood: she personalized
her clothes in 6th grade, and sewed my own prom dress. She followed another path
professional in the health field, but it was motherhood that brought her back to art
textile, at a time when she had a deep need to create. She found a passion for
embroidery, but the slow pace of hand embroidery left her wanting more. That's when she
discovered “Irish” machine embroidery — a little-known technique where you draw
on the fabric using a needle and a zigzag stitch. She traveled abroad to find the
good machine and sought mentorship overseas. After a long apprenticeship, she now creates poetic textile pieces inspired by nature and everyday life, in
often incorporating reclaimed fabrics to combine sustainability and textile storytelling.
