" This painting was inspired by the months I spent in Germany in 2020. My husband is German, and I was fascinated by the tradition of interrupting everything in the afternoon for coffee and a slice of cake. Not for a special occasion, just because it's that time of day."
I loved the simplicity of that moment: sitting down, pouring myself a cup, cutting a slice, and taking a real break. No to-do list. No emails. Just a slice of cake in the middle of the day. I kept thinking about how calming that rhythm was and how different it was from the pace I was used to.
So, I painted a table imbued with that energy. The coffee is already served. The cake is half-cut. Candles and champagne glasses, just for the pleasure of it. A few flowers. A little bit of mess. An imperfect table, but warm and inviting.
This work speaks of gentleness, rituals, and slowing down. Of giving time to gentleness, even without a particular reason.
Original gouache painting on paper .
Naomi Poirier is a painter based in Quebec City. Her practice began as a hobby during the pandemic, but over time, it became a way for her to understand the world and share her vision with others. At the beginning of 2024, she decided to leave her full-time office job to dedicate herself entirely to her artistic career.

Her work is inspired by everyday life. Naomi is drawn to familiar objects and ordinary moments, those that often go unnoticed. A table set for a meal, the changing light in a room, the quiet rhythm of daily life—these are all scenes that stimulate her imagination. On canvas, they are transformed into colorful compositions, full of warmth and intimacy.

For her, painting is both a personal need and a way to connect with others. Through it, she celebrates what is overlooked and gives form to the meaning found in ordinary life.
